 ³o¬OChemistry a modern view by E Cheng & J Chow¤¤P.150, 9.4Giant Covalent Structures¼gªº:

Most covalent substances are molecular substances. However, in a few elements and compounds, the non-metal atoms join together by covalent bonds to form a giant network, called giant covalent structure. The bonds extend throughout the whole structure, binding all the atoms together. there are no discrete molecules.

P.151, Table 9.3 Constituent particles of various substances.¤¤
pure substance -> compound -> compounds made up of non-metals only - *usually molecules
*Silicon(IV) oxide is an exception. it has a giant covalent structure
without molecules.
